Five years on, SARS\u2013CoV\u20132 is a ghost.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not the beast it was (or was purported to be); yet (as\u00a0of this last \u201cflu season<\/a>\u201d)\u00a0young medical students were still required to get the \u201cjab.\u201d<\/a><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a><\/strong>The current iteration of coronavirus, Omicron, LP.8.1\u2013feels like a cold now, nothing more \u2013 moreover, its epitope is\u00a0not even included<\/a>\u00a0in the \u201cbivalent\u201d Covid vaccine handed out, 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to 2003\u2019s SARS, coronaviruses were just that: colds, the kind you shook off with soup and sleep.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

No one demanded shots. No one cared. So why are we still doing this? The numbers, the past, the plain truth say it\u2019s hollow\u2014a rule for the sake of rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back in 2020, the virus (or the overreaction to it) hit like a storm.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hospitals were packed. People died\u2013350,000 in the US, mostly old, mostly sick \u2013 either \u201cfrom\u201d or \u201cwith\u201d coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kids? They were fine.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The American Academy of Pediatrics counted 112 deaths under 18 by December\u20140.005% of cases; however, those children had problems: diabetes, obesity, and bad lungs. Healthy ones sneezed and moved on. Medical students, in their 20s, were close behind. The CDC pegged that age group\u2019s mortality rate at 0.02%\u20131,200 out of 6 million cases. Two percent landed in hospitals; near zero needed ICUs. There was no real danger for them, 2020 \u2013 and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now it\u2019s 2025. The virus hasn\u2019t vanished, but it\u2019s weak.<\/strong> Immunity\u2014from shots, or from previously having contracted one or another of the Covid variant strains\u2013covers essentially everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current Omicron virus is no monster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a nuisance\u2013 moreover, it\u2019s likely conflated with background \u201ccommon cold\u201d coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Omicron showed up in 2021, spread like crazy, but didn\u2019t hit hard. My 2022 piece \u201cIs it Time to Accept That Omicron is not COVID-19?<\/a>\u201d noted it was not even genomically and offspring of Covid-19\u2014just another coronavirus, like the ones that give you a runny nose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current version is much weaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So what\u2019s the reason for medical students\u2019 \u201cbooster\u201d mandates\u2019 continuation?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The shots aren\u2019t harmless.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Myocarditis hits young guys\u20131\u201310 per 100,000 mRNA doses, says a 2022 JAMA<\/em> study. Medical schools, in particular, should know better. They should move away from anachronistic, lockstep, doctrinaire mandates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2025, President Trump signed an Executive Order prohibiting federal funding for educational institutions that mandate Covid\u201319 vaccines <\/a>for in\u2013person attendance. Medical schools reliant on federal funds may reconsider these pointless mandates, paeans to outdated orthodoxy.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
