Kathianne Boniello<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The former head of the Centers for Disease Control during President Donald Trump\u2019s<\/strong> first term declared it a \u201cmistake\u201d to vaccinate pregnant women for Covid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Speaking to NewsNation\u2019s Katie Pavlich <\/strong>for Tuesday\u2019s episode of Katie Pavlich Tonight<\/em>, Robert Redfield<\/strong> said he was not in favor of the Covid-era policy of vaccinating pregnant women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The topic has sparked heated reactions<\/a> since text messages from former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci<\/strong>, recently came to light, in which the former top health official acknowledged the possibility that the vaccine could cause miscarriage<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Subsequent research has shown no link between the Covid vaccine and miscarriages, and the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists<\/a> continues to recommend pregnant women be vaccinated against the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI never thought we should vaccinate pregnant women, I was not in favor of that policy recommendation because the Covid vaccine did not prevent infection,\u201d Redfield told Pavlich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cSo the argument that some people had that you had to vaccinate pregnant women to protect the unborn baby because it would protect mommy from getting infected, that was not a true statement because it doesn\u2019t prevent infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAnd so I was of the view that the only thing the vaccine really accomplished, which was important, was it prevented serious illness and death in people that were at high risk for serious illness and death, and those are people largely over 65, of which obviously that doesn\u2019t include the pregnant women population.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cSo I think it was a mistake to vaccinate pregnant women,\u201d he said, later calling it \u201can error in judgment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n But the \u201creal mistake,\u201d Redfield noted, was the lack of an \u201copen, transparent discussion of this for the public so the public could make their own decisions about whether they should take the vaccine when they were pregnant or not.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The nation\u2019s handling of the Covid pandemic has come back into focus after Sen. Rand Paul<\/strong> (R-KY) published Fauci\u2019s diaries online<\/a> and hauled the former NIAID head in front of a Senate subcommittee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
