{"id":1962,"date":"2021-08-12T19:58:20","date_gmt":"2021-08-12T19:58:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.cov19longhaulfoundation.org\/?p=1962"},"modified":"2021-08-12T19:58:20","modified_gmt":"2021-08-12T19:58:20","slug":"critics-fault-henry-ford-hydroxychloroquine-study-methodology-conclusion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cov19longhaulfoundation.org\/?p=1962","title":{"rendered":"Critics Fault Henry Ford Hydroxychloroquine Study Methodology, Conclusion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Authors: by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wdet.org\/author\/183\/\">Alex McLenon<\/a>\u00a0| July 15, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong>One critic says the study, which found the drug led to fewer\u00a0COVID-19 deaths, did not used a randomized trial and patients not administered the drug were more likely to die\u00a0anyway.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:24px\">A recent Henry Ford Health System study&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wdet.org\/posts\/2020\/07\/09\/89803-local-hydroxychloroquine-study-shows-promising-sign-in-early-stage-covid-19-patients\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">finding&nbsp;COVID-19 patients treated with&nbsp;hydroxycloroquine<\/a>&nbsp;were less likely to die from the virus&nbsp;is drawing skepticism from some medical&nbsp;professionals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:24px\">Critics say the research is an&nbsp;\u201cobservational study\u201d&nbsp;that&nbsp;did not make use of random control groups.&nbsp;<strong>Steven&nbsp;Nissen<\/strong>, chief academic officer of the Heart&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;Vascular Institute&nbsp;at the Cleveland Clinic, says the study\u2019s methodology preordained&nbsp;its&nbsp;conclusion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cI can tell you it doesn\u2019t prove anything.\u201d \u2014 Steven Nissen, Cleveland&nbsp;Clinic<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:24px\">In a randomized study, \u201cyou assign people to get one therapy or another and then find out how they do,\u201d Nissen said.
