{"id":2713,"date":"2021-08-24T15:19:08","date_gmt":"2021-08-24T15:19:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.cov19longhaulfoundation.org\/?p=2713"},"modified":"2021-08-24T15:19:08","modified_gmt":"2021-08-24T15:19:08","slug":"dr-fauci-says-no-end-to-covid-pandemic-before-spring-2022-at-the-earliest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cov19longhaulfoundation.org\/?p=2713","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Fauci says no end to COVID pandemic before spring 2022 \u2014 at the earliest"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Authors: <strong>By\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/ny-dave-goldiner-staff.html#nt=byline\">DAVE GOLDINER<\/a><\/strong>NEW YORK DAILY NEWS\u00a0|AUG 24, 2021\u00a0AT\u00a09:14 AM<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:22px\">Dr. Anthony Fauci says the U.S. won\u2019t emerge from the COVID pandemic until next spring at the earliest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:22px\">The world-renowned infectious disease expert predicted the coming months will remain very difficult, with high caseloads and deaths especially in places with low vaccination rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:22px\">\u201cIf we can get through this winter &#8230; I hope we can get some good control in the spring of 2022,\u201d Fauci told CNN\u2019s Anderson Cooper Monday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:22px\">Fauci said it will be impossible to get a grip on the pandemic until underwhelming vaccination rates dramatically improve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:22px\">\u201cThat would mean you have the overwhelming majority of the population vaccinated,\u201d he said. \u201cThen we can get an overall blanket protection of the community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:22px\">With just over half of Americans fully vaccinated and close to 100 million eligible people so far refusing to get the lifesaving shots, Fauci essentially predicted it will be impossible to return to a normal life anytime soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:22px\">\u201cWe hope we\u2019ll be there &#8230; but there\u2019s no guarantee,\u201d he said. \u201cBecause it\u2019s up to us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:22px\">Even more worrisome, Fauci said the U.S. and the world are racing to get the virus under control before COVID potentially mutates into new and even more virulent strains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:22px\">He reminded Americans that things looked much more promising until we were hit with the \u201csucker punch\u201d of the ultra-contagious delta variant, which effectively dashed hopes of an earlier recovery this summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a big caveat: this is a very wily virus,\u201d he said. \u201cIf we don\u2019t do what we are supposed to do and get people vaccinated &#8230; this thing could linger on, leading to the development of another variant.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surgeon General Vivek Murthy Tuesday echoed Fauci\u2019s remarks and backed President Biden\u2019s call for employers to mandate vaccinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He called the rapid full approval of the Pfizer vaccination a glimmer of hope as the nation seeks to claw its way out of the current COVID surge engineered by the delta variant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Authors: By\u00a0DAVE GOLDINERNEW YORK DAILY NEWS\u00a0|AUG 24, 2021\u00a0AT\u00a09:14 AM Dr. Anthony Fauci says the U.S. won\u2019t emerge from the COVID pandemic until next spring at the earliest.
