{"id":4408,"date":"2022-05-10T14:10:46","date_gmt":"2022-05-10T14:10:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.cov19longhaulfoundation.org\/?p=4408"},"modified":"2022-05-10T14:10:46","modified_gmt":"2022-05-10T14:10:46","slug":"dc-investigating-109-mysterious-hepatitis-cases-in-children-including-5-deaths","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cov19longhaulfoundation.org\/?p=4408","title":{"rendered":"DC Investigating 109 Mysterious Hepatitis Cases In Children, Including 5 Deaths"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Authors: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/cdc-investigating-109-mysterious-hepatitis-cases-in-children-including-5-deaths_4450725.html?utm_source=partner&amp;utm_campaign=ZeroHedge\"><em>Jack Phillips via The Epoch Times,<\/em><\/a>  May 7, 2022<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:300\">The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-cdc\">CDC<\/a>) is investigating more than 100 cases of a mysterious form of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-hepatitis\">hepatitis<\/a>&nbsp;in children, saying that five have died so far.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Jay Butler, the CDC\u2019s deputy director of infectious diseases, said during a briefing said the agency is investigating 109 cases of acute hepatitis, or liver inflammation, in 24 U.S. states and Puerto Rico.&nbsp;<strong>The cause of the outbreak is not yet clear, he stressed, adding that about half of the children had adenovirus infections<\/strong>, although&nbsp;Butler said the CDC doesn\u2019t know yet if adenovirus is the actual cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Approximately 90 percent of the children required hospitalization, Butler said.&nbsp;<strong>Five have died so far, and more have required liver transplants,&nbsp;<\/strong>he added in the briefing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last month, the CDC issued a nationwide alert after nine acute hepatitis cases were discovered among children in Georgia. Since then, a number of state agencies have reported cases and several deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Several days ago, the CDC issued a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/71\/wr\/mm7118e1.htm?s_cid=mm7118e1_w\">report<\/a>&nbsp;saying that it found no evidence that COVID-19 vaccines caused the outbreak of hepatitis among children.<\/strong>&nbsp;None of the initial children in Alabama, the agency said, received the vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, other countries have reported similar outbreaks of hepatitis among children.&nbsp;<\/strong>On Friday, the UK Health Security Agency reported that (<a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/1073704\/acute-hepatitis-technical-briefing-2.pdf\">pdf<\/a>) the country\u2019s case count had risen to 163, dating back to early January, adding that 11 children have received liver transplants so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cAdenovirus remains the most frequently detected potential pathogen. Amongst 163 UK cases, 126 have been tested for adenovirus of which 91 had adenovirus detected,\u201d said the agency.<\/p><p>\u201cAmongst cases the adenovirus has primarily been detected in blood.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>UK officials also ruled out the COVID-19 vaccine as a potential cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThere are fewer than five older case-patients recorded as having had a COVID-19 vaccination prior to hepatitis onset,\u201d the report said, adding that most of the impacted children are too young to receive the shot.<\/p><p><strong>\u201cThere is no evidence of a link between COVID-19 vaccination and the acute hepatic syndrome.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this week, the World Health Organization (WHO)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/healthcare-pharmaceuticals\/least-228-probable-cases-child-hepatitis-so-far-who-2022-05-03\/\">told<\/a>&nbsp;news outlets that there were at least 228 probable cases of hepatitis worldwide in at least 20 countries. That statement came before the CDC\u2019s latest announcement Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver that can be caused by a viral infection, alcohol, prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications acetaminophen, high doses of certain herbal supplements, toxins, and various medical conditions. Hepatitis viruses, which spread via bodily fluids, can also cause liver inflammation.
